Established in 1983 as a merger of the Church Extension Society of WNY and the Atonement Fund, the Lutheran Foundation of WNY
enables the congregations of the Niagara Frontier to better serve their communities through grants for outreach programs and loans for capital improvements.
How Does It Work?
Congregations seeking grants make an application through the Lutheran Charities Board (usually in May of the year proceeding the one in which the grant will be
used). A recommendation is then made by that board to the Foundtaion for its ultimate approval.
In recent years, such grants have been given to Lord Of Life and Child Services in Depew, the RAGtime
Summer Day Camp/VBS programs at Resurrection, North Park and Cleveland Hill Churches in Buffalo and the Youth Outreach program at St. Paul's in Niagara Falls.
Loan requests for capital improvements are made
at any time directly to the Foundation Board. Loans at competitive interest rates are normally given for no more than 5 years. All Saints, Hamburg; Grace, North Tonawanda; Concordia, Buffalo; and Ascension, Buffalo
have benefited from Lutheran Foundation loans over the years.
